The short answer

Same-day round trip: Leave Pattaya early (06:00–07:00), hit Bangkok mid-morning, return before late-night fatigue. You avoid an extension but spend six to eight hours on the road. Realistic for immigration queues, a mall run, or airport pickup if timing is tight.

Overnight in Bangkok: Treat as a multi-day rental. You need:

• Written extension or a booking that includes Bangkok nights from the start
• Secure overnight parking (hotel or guarded lot)
