Pattaya scooter rental contract: keep a complete copy
Preserve every signed page, payment record and condition diagram before riding away. Your copy anchors the pickup facts if the return record is later disputed.

Photograph every completed, signed page and receipt before payment or pickup. Include the vehicle identifier, dates, price, deposit, return place, damage record and both parties’ details. Store a protected backup and retain it until every refund, hold and claim is closed.
A rental agreement may be paper, digital or both. Whatever the format, do not rely on access controlled only by the operator. Keep the version you signed and the payment evidence in a form you can open offline at return.
Thailand’s vehicle-rental controlled-contract rules require clear details including the vehicle, duties, rental period, delivery and return locations, payment and replacement conditions. The OCPB implementation summary says the framework took effect on 30 December 2025. A saved copy lets you refer to those actual terms rather than memory.
What to photograph before you pay
- Every page of the rental agreement, including reverse-side terms if present.
- Damage diagram with marks staff acknowledge — blank diagrams are a contract red flag.
- Deposit amount and whether it is cash, card hold, or PromptPay — see written receipt and cash deposit guides.
- Return date and time — late fees bite when this line is vague.
- Model and plate or fleet number — critical if staff swap bikes; see wrong model at pickup.
- Passport policy if written — demanding the physical passport is a scam signal; see passport hostage.
- Both signatures — yours and staff — with the bike visible in frame if possible.
Paper duplicate vs phone backup
If you receive a paper copy, protect it and create a legible backup. If the agreement arrives through LINE, email or another service, download it rather than relying on an expiring chat or link. Store passport and contract images securely because they contain identity and contact data; use device protection and delete unnecessary copies after the rental and any dispute are fully closed.
If you cannot understand a term, request an explanation or translation before signing. A photograph does not cure a blank amount, missing return time or clause you did not understand. See reading the contract and Thai contract basics.
When staff refuse photography
If the operator refuses to provide or let you retain a copy of the completed agreement, do not proceed until you have a documented alternative. Ask whether it can print, email or send the signed file. If no usable copy is available, compare another operator; see shop red flags.
Using your copy on return day
Open the saved agreement before inspection and compare the vehicle identifier, return time, fuel, accessories and recorded condition. Keep separate proof of the deposit payment because a contract amount alone may not prove it was paid. The return-day sequence explains how to close the record.
