Can you take a rental scooter from Pattaya to Koh Larn?
Do not plan to roll a Pattaya rental onto the public ferry. Treat Bali Hai services as passenger transport unless a named operator explicitly confirms vehicle carriage for that sailing.

Use the public Bali Hai crossing as a foot-passenger service unless the exact licensed boat operator confirms that a specific sailing carries motor vehicles. Leave the Pattaya rental at an authorised mainland parking place, then use island songthaew service or arrange an island vehicle separately. Contract permission and insurance still need exact written confirmation for any vehicle movement.
The short answer
Not on the ordinary public-ferry assumption. Pattaya City materials describe the Bali Hai–Koh Larn route as passenger-boat transport, and the available evidence does not establish routine rental-scooter carriage. A private vessel, freight service or exceptional sailing would need direct confirmation from its operator as well as permission from the rental business. Do not rely on a blog, old video or pier-side verbal claim.
Why Koh Larn trips catch renters out
The practical default is to park on the Pattaya side and cross without the rental scooter. That avoids an unsupported assumption about vessel capability, loading permission, marine handling, rental territory and policy coverage. It also keeps the scooter available for a joint return inspection on the mainland.
If anyone offers to carry the scooter, obtain the operator's legal name, vessel or service, date, sailing, loading point, written acceptance and total charge. Separately ask the rental company to amend the agreement for marine carriage and the destination. A rental-company reply cannot authorise a boat, and a boat operator cannot change the rental contract.
Plan mainland parking and island transport
Ask the hotel or a staffed parking facility near Bali Hai for current motorcycle-parking permission, operating hours, retrieval terms and a receipt. Photograph the scooter where permitted without exposing keys or security details. Keep enough time to retrieve it and meet the rental return deadline after the passenger crossing.
On Koh Larn, confirm the current local songthaew route and fare after arrival. If you independently rent an island scooter, that is a second contract: recheck licence recognition, motorcycle entitlement, insurance, security, helmet, condition and return terms. Do not assume the Pattaya agreement or deposit covers a different island operator.
Riding on Koh Larn itself
Island roads include slopes and bends that may not suit an inexperienced rider or an unfamiliar scooter. Inspect brakes, tyres, lights and mirrors before any local rental and choose songthaew transport if the route, weather or vehicle is outside your ability. Wear a compliant helmet and carry the motorcycle-valid documents recognised for your situation. A licence or IDP question is separate from rental availability, and an IDP cannot add a motorcycle entitlement absent from the underlying licence.
