English scooter rental contract in Pattaya
An English version can help you understand a rental, but it must be matched to the complete Thai contract and signed terms. Verify any translation, resolve differences in writing and keep every page.

OCPB’s April 2026 vehicle-rental guidance says prescribed rental contracts use Thai text, including readable Thai text for online contracts. An English version is therefore an aid, not proof that you have the complete controlling terms. Compare both versions, obtain independent translation where needed, and keep the signed contract and pickup record.
English text does not show by itself that the terms are complete, fair or enforceable. Compare it with the Thai contract, all schedules, the condition diagram and any handwritten additions. A verbal summary may help communication but should not replace a written term.
OCPB says vehicle rental became a controlled-contract business effective 30 December 2025 and prescribed contracts should state material details including the vehicle, rental period, delivery and return, payment and security amount. Ask what document you will actually sign
Before paying, ask whether you will receive a Thai contract, a bilingual contract or a separate English translation. Ask which pages make up the agreement and whether the English text is incorporated into it. Do not infer the answer from the operator’s size or location.
If the operator will not let you read and retain the complete written terms, choose another rental. For any renewal or extension, record the new dates, payment, security and unchanged terms in a signed document. See written receipts and choosing a rental shop.
Bilingual forms and what still binds you
A bilingual layout does not prove both texts have identical meaning or establish which text controls a dispute. Look for a language-precedence clause, compare all numbers and obtain independent translation if the consequences matter. Record the security amount, return date and time, fuel level, fees, damage terms and refund method in the signed pages.
Read the full document, including small print about province limits, helmet use, and who pays if the bike is stolen while parked. If you cannot read Thai and staff will not explain a paragraph, pause and use the Thai contract guide — or rent elsewhere. Never sign a blank diagram or an empty damage table; mark every scratch on the body sketch before you leave the shop.
Deposit and damage clauses to read line by line
Search both language versions for these terms and figures before you pay:
- Security deposit: amount in baht, cash vs card hold, refund timing on return day.
- Damage / repairs: whether you pay full panel cost, a capped excess, or “shop estimate.”
- Pre-existing condition: whether the shop acknowledges marks you listed at pickup.
- Late return: hourly or daily penalty, and whether the shop can charge for “lost hire” days.
- Passport: copy only vs physical passport held — the latter is a red flag regardless of language.
Do not assume that a cap exists or that a vague translated phrase has a particular legal effect. Ask the operator to state the calculation clearly in both texts and obtain advice if the exposure is material. Cross-check damage language with rental damage charges, deposit guide, and pickup photography.
When English and Thai versions disagree
If the versions differ, do not sign until the operator supplies a clear correction in both texts and both parties acknowledge it. Do not amend the operator’s document unilaterally. If the operator refuses, choose another rental.

Verbal English vs the signed page

Pickup video and return day
An English version helps only when it is accurate, complete and retained with the signed terms. Film a slow walk-around: every panel, mirror, wheel rim, seat, odometer and fuel level. Match the record to the signed damage diagram. On return, request a joint inspection and written closure showing any charge and the refund method or status.
