When Grab or taxi wins
Choose ride-hail or a metered taxi when:
- Night travel — poorly lit sois, tired riding, and alcohol nearby make scooters the wrong choice.
- Heavy rain — reduced visibility and wet roads may exceed your ability or risk tolerance.
- After drinking — never ride a scooter after alcohol. Full stop.
- Large luggage — airport runs, big-shop trips, moving between hotels.
- No recognised licence route — do not ride. Verify current official requirements; legal and coverage consequences depend on the controlling law, contract, policy and facts.
- Short or simple itinerary — a rental may add more pickup, return and deposit work than the journeys justify.
- Passengers — compare lawful capacity, helmet needs, comfort and luggage rather than assuming one scooter fits the party.
Licence and insurance angle
As a passenger, you do not operate the vehicle, but still verify the service, vehicle and booking shown in the app or at pickup. Do not make assumptions here about a driver’s licence or insurance; those are matters for the provider and current law.

Grab versus metered taxi
App features, booking estimates and taxi payment practices can change. For any option, confirm the vehicle and driver shown, the displayed or agreed pricing method, destination and any toll treatment before the trip starts. Other local transport may suit a route, but check its current route and fare directly.

Scooter versus car

Plan nights separately — budget Grab for evenings even if you rent by day.
