Choose a vehicle only after confirming that every passenger and bag fits with the intended seat layout. Request a current written quote showing deposit or card hold, excess, mileage, fuel, permitted area and any child seat. Verify the accepted licence route with authoritative sources and the operator. Passenger count alone does not prove which vehicle fits. Third-row seats can reduce luggage space, child seats can change usable capacity, and a vehicle-class promise may allow substitution. Compare the exact model or a written minimum specification instead of relying on an SUV or 7-seater label.

When families and groups need an SUV or MPV
A larger rental car makes sense when:
- Passenger fit — compare the exact approved seating positions, restraints, occupant needs and luggage configuration rather than inferring comfort or capacity from a vehicle-class label.
- Heavy or bulky luggage — airport arrivals with multiple suitcases, strollers or sports gear.
- Longer day trips — Rayong, Koh Chang ferry runs, or Bangkok with children; air conditioning and space matter on multi-hour drives.
- Elderly or mobility-limited passengers — test the actual step height, door opening, handholds and transfer. A higher seat is not automatically easier to reach.
- Road conditions — some renters prefer higher ground clearance for rural or construction-heavy routes; this is preference, not requirement.
If a smaller vehicle meets the verified seating, luggage and accessibility needs, include it in the same live-quote comparison. The scooter or car guide helps structure the wider choice.
Two model examples to compare
MAKS Car Rental’s public catalogue, checked 8 September 2026, names a Toyota Fortuner example labelled 2018–20 and a seven-seat Honda Mobilio. These are enquiry starting points, not a stock confirmation. Its Mobilio appears under more than one catalogue category; do not count those entries as separate available cars.
Toyota Fortuner: match the year before using a brochure
As a manufacturer example, Toyota Thailand lists seven-seat Legender grades. The 2024 Legender catalogue describes a 60:40 second row and 50:50 third row. Those ratios describe separately folding sections; they do not establish how many suitcases fit behind occupied seats. Both sources were checked 8 September 2026. The newer Legender specification must not be applied to the operator’s older Fortuner example.
Honda Mobilio: ask to see the intended layout
For the Mobilio catalogue example, request photographs of all three rows, the third-row access path and the luggage space left with every required seat occupied. The operator’s seven-seat listing does not establish the exact trim, child-seat compatibility or individual passenger fit. Ask for the actual year and trim before choosing a matching manufacturer manual.
For either car, send passenger numbers and bag dimensions. Request a photograph with the seats in your intended positions and demonstrate access with any child seats installed. If someone has limited mobility, assess the step, door opening, handholds and transfer together. Put the required layout and acceptable substitution in the written booking.
Read the dated MAKS provider record for payment, security, cover and source qualifications, then use the car pickup record for the actual handover.
Deposit and credit-card hold
Do not infer the hold from vehicle size, operator type or airport location. Ask for the exact amount, payment rail, release trigger and any separate excess before booking. Check whether the named driver and payment-card holder must match.

Verify the licence category
Confirm the current legal document route from authoritative sources and ask the operator which licence category, issuing country, IDP route, age and holding period it accepts for the exact vehicle. Do not assume every vehicle marketed as an SUV or MPV falls under identical conditions.

Airport versus local agency
Airport branch — verify opening and arrival policy, exact stock, flight-delay handling, location fees, payment requirements and one-way terms with that branch.
Pattaya branch or delivery — verify the fixed address, delivery and collection terms, exact vehicle, contract, cover and payment method. Do not infer price or documentation quality from the operator label. The comparison guide supplies a neutral checklist.
Child seats — ask at booking, not at the counter

Child-seat availability is branch-, date- and product-specific. Ask when booking and confirm the seat type, applicable child dimensions, condition, price, installation responsibility and what happens if the reserved item is unavailable.
Bringing your own travel seat is an option if airline baggage allowance permits. Do not assume a seat will be waiting at pickup.
What to check before you pay
Exact model and seat count — confirm third-row availability and luggage space with seats up.
Daily or weekly rate plus deposit — total in writing; see the prices guide.
Insurance excess — obtain the exact amount and exclusions from the agreement; do not estimate from vehicle value.
Child seat reservation — confirmed in writing if you need one.
Parking and driving a larger vehicle in Pattaya
Measure the vehicle against the parking and route you plan to use. Camera, sensor, turning circle and fuel use vary by model, load and driving. Check equipment at pickup and build fuel estimates from the actual vehicle and distance.
Document the exact vehicle and terms
Use a joint pickup record and an itemised contract; a disputed charge is resolved with evidence, not assumptions about vehicle class.
