Standard and RoadSync are separate Honda records

For the 2025 Thai model year, Honda publishes one Motopub record for PCX160 (STD) and another for PCX160 (RoadSync). That is useful rental evidence: connected equipment cannot be inferred from the PCX160 name alone. The August 2026 Thai Honda bulletin describes a New PCX160 with revised colour presentation, which adds another reason to identify the generation before comparing adverts.

Request recent photographs, registration number, model year and model code before pickup. Match those details to the registration document and the correct Honda record. If the shop promises RoadSync or another trim-specific feature, have the trim written into the quote; if a different PCX appears, repeat the comparison rather than accepting “same model” verbally.

Treat connected features as a handover and privacy issue

If the exact unit is a RoadSync version and phone pairing matters, ask the shop to demonstrate the feature while stationary. Confirm whether the rental contract permits pairing, which app and permissions are required, how any previous user is removed and how your own pairing data will be deleted at return. Do not interact with navigation or phone functions while moving.

Connectivity should not distract from the basics. Verify that both keys or smart-key components supplied at handover work, understand the emergency procedure in the matching manual, and record how loss or battery failure is handled. Never lock the only key, emergency key or identity tag inside the compartment.

The tyre layout is a model-year check

The official 2021 Thai PCX160 manual illustrates why the precise year matters: it specifies a 110/70-14 front tyre and a 130/70-13 rear tyre, and a higher rear pressure for rider plus passenger than for a solo rider. Those figures belong to the 2021 Thai manual; they are not automatically the specification for a 2025 or 2026 unit.

At pickup, read both tyre sidewalls and the bike’s pressure label, then compare them with the matching manual. Look for cuts, cracking, plugs, uneven wear, exposed cords and a visible tread-wear indicator. Use a gauge on cold tyres if the shop can provide one. A visually similar front and rear wheel does not justify using one copied pressure for both.

Check PCX fit and storage with real items

Do not infer comfort from the long seat or bodywork. With normal footwear, check stable footing, brake reach, full handlebar sweep, mirror view, knees at full steering lock and the effort needed to move the bike backward from a parking space. Add the luggage you expect to carry and repeat the test.

Open and close every compartment with the supplied key system. Test your actual helmet or bag; the claim that a helmet “fits under the seat” depends on shell shape and size. Find the load limits in the exact manual, including the combined rider, passenger, luggage and accessory total. If two-up use is planned, test together while stationary and verify that the contract and insurance permit it.

Price the identified trim, not the PCX badge

Ask for a dated written total tied to the registration number or a clearly defined substitute. It should include the rental period, mandatory fees, deposit custody and refund route, fuel rule, distance or geographic limits, delivery, late return, cancellation, optional equipment and damage liability. Use the pickup checklist on the named bike. Film the dashboard at ignition, warning lights, cold start, brakes, tyres, wheels, steering, suspension, lights, horn, mirrors, panels and every mark. Keep the source file, signed condition record, quote and contract through return.

Licence and policy evidence do not follow the trim

PCX160, Standard or RoadSync labels do not establish the rider’s legal entitlement. Confirm a motorcycle-valid route recognised under current Thai rules for the rider’s own documents. An IDP only translates an existing home-licence entitlement; it cannot add a missing motorcycle category. Start with the licence guide and IDP guide, then recheck the current official sources for your circumstances.

Read the insurance certificate or policy wording. Check the registration, eligible rider, dates, territorial limits, licence conditions, exclusions, excess, theft, damage and third-party liability. Marketing labels such as “premium” and a shop’s verbal “fully insured” statement establish none of those items.
