Late return on a rental scooter in Pattaya — fees and what to do

The short answer
Return time is a contract term, not a suggestion. If you bring the bike back after the deadline written on your rental agreement, most Pattaya shops charge a late fee. As of May 2026, the editors’ field checks find that many shops apply a full extra daily rate after a short grace period; others charge hourly. The fee may be taken from your deposit if you do not pay cash at return. Policies vary — confirm late-return terms on the contract before you pay, and prices change without notice.
Call the shop before the deadline
If a flight delay, illness or traffic will make you late, contact the shop as early as possible — ideally before the return time, not after. A fair shop will often agree to a short extension if the bike is still needed and you communicate promptly. An uncommunicated late return is where disputes start, especially when the shop has already promised the bike to another customer.
Extra day or hourly charges
Late fees are not standardised across Pattaya. Get an extension in writing
A verbal OK at the counter is fragile. If the shop agrees to a new return time, ask for it in writing: a note on the contract, a stamped receipt amendment, or a dated message to the shop’s official phone or social account. Include the new return time and any extra charge agreed. Without written confirmation, the shop may revert to the original deadline and apply a late fee you did not expect.
